Foundation….
The fortnight was dedicated towards strengthening the foundation of our new zero waste center ‘Suraksha’.
As holistic waste management need more of behavioral change than the infrastructural one, we spent a lot of time and resources towards spreading awareness on the same. Scout kids, students from Riverside school, members of our eco-system anchored this mass awareness program.
As at this center, we are dealing with wet waste for the first time, it is gratifying to witness the whole composting site gradually falling in place. Lots of learning is happening simultaneously.
Apart from this, our efforts of empowering sisters in earlier communities are going intact with the same spirit and planning. We had senior students from Riverside joining us for WASTE PILGRIMAGE which had rag-picking, sorting of collected waste and circle of sharing as the three phases. We also had MBA students from NIRMA university planning to organize an awareness campaign towards minimizing the use of plastic bags especially in vegetable markets in Ahmedabad corroborated with giving them an alternative of clothes bags.
On health aspect, we have initiated the in-depth follow-up of each and every sisters who underwent end-to-end body check-up last month. Idea is to ensure that no disease should remain untreated.
So, all-in-all, the journey is fulfilling.
