Monsoon, a season comes as a blessing for few and curse for few.
Our rag-picking sisters fall in the 2nd category. In monsoon, due to rains, they are unable to go out and rag-pick many a times, and even if they go, as the waste becomes wet, they receive way less money from that. This creates a helpless situation in their homes as they find it difficult to feed their families due to steep decline in income.
So, being the committed co-travelers with them, like every year, we did a grocery distribution event sharing one month grocery kit with each of them. This small gesture will ensure that no-one sleeps empty stomach for this period of intense monsoon.
We also took this opportunity to invite Arunaben, a very experienced Health Worker, sharing awareness on health issues, precautions & cure especially in monsoons.
It was a happy coincidence to have two of our previous volunteers Abhas from HEC-Paris and Tridibesh from University of Exeter, UK visiting us in this period. They also took part in this event along with Bhattji Kaka (trustee of Manav Sadhna).
On the other hand, we finally started door-to-door collection of segregated waste from 3500HHs of Ahmedabad Cantonment Board. It was fulfilling to see the whole team with right mindset and enthusiasm ready to serve.
